Locking Accelerator
DHHQ
The locking accelerator tightens dreads by opening the hair cuticles, increasing the friction between strands, and creating an environment that dreads thrive in. The accelerator greatly reduces the time it takes for dreads to reach maturity so you can spend less time maintaining your dreads and more time enjoying them.
When to use the Locking Accelerator
The locking accelerator is even more effective when used on recently washed, residue free hair because it allows the accelerator to act directly on the strands rather than trying to work through a thin layer of residue. This is why the locking accelerator and dread soap are such a powerful combination. You can apply the Locking Accelerator to your dreads anytime you want but there are a few key times when it does the most good:
Just before putting in your dreads.
It will make the dreading faster and more effective. Here is the best order:
- Wash your hair with the dread soap.
- Towel dry to soak up most of the water.
- Spray the Accelerator liberally on the hair.
- Section the hair. (it’s usually easier to section damp hair)
- Dry the hair completely.
- Backcomb the hair.
After you wash your dreads, before you dry and re-wax’em.
Before you go out in the sun for long periods of time.
The accelerator works even better when combined with exposure to the sun.
Make lots of knots.
The locking accelerator can be used by itself or with lock peppa when creating knots by palm rolling, clockwise rubbing or finger rubbing. First wash them, then towel dry and spray them with the accelerator. After blow drying them or allowing them to air dry your dreads will be ready to knot. For even easier knotting you can add a shake of lock peppa just before you start rubbing them. After you have worked on them they will feel very knotty and fuzzy. You can then add a small amount of wax and palmroll them really well to smooth out fuzzy’s and help them lock.
How to Use the Locking Accelerator
Begin by washing the dreads with the Dead Soap. Towel dry excess water from the dreads. Take the towel with you and run outside. (this will ensure you don’t get over spray from the accelerator on your floor and or furniture) Put the towel around your neck and flip your head forward. Then spray the Locking Accelerator liberally on clean dreads (or un-dreaded sectioned hair prior to dreading). You want to avoid spraying the accelerator on your scalp. The easiest way to do this is to hang your dreads in front of the sprayer and spray away from your scalp.
Squeeze excess accelerator from the dreads with a towel. Blow dry if possible or allow them to air dry. Try to dry the extra accelerator from the dreads while your head is still leaned to avoid accelerator trickling down your on your head. Palm rolling them as they dry and around an hour or so after they have dried will help them take shape a bit and assist the accelerator in opening the cuticles.
While you are spraying the accelerator you can use your free hand to move your dreads around and make sure they get a nice even spraying. The amount to use depends on how many dreads you have, how long they are and how much help they need. Generally you want to end up with a heavy misting that leaves the hair somewhere between damp and wet.
If you accidentally spray some on your scalp, or some trickles on to it, just rinse it with warm water. There are no harsh chemicals in the accelerator that can burn or damage your scalp or hair however there are several salts involved and, as everyone knows, salt on tender skin or an open wound is a bugger. So if you’ve been scratching your scalp a good bit and then you spray accelerator on it you will feel it. If you scalp is extra dry, itchy, suffering from dandruff or in any way irritated take care of it before using the accelerator.
A quick note about the packaging: When you get your Locking Accelerator you’ll notice that the bottle is very light. Yes, it’s in there, but we left out the water to save you a few dollars on the shipping. Just add warm water, bottled if possible, to the mixture in the bottle and shake to mix.
